What industry do you come from before working with Brilliant Muse?

I came from a start up background heavily focused on Operations and product development (e-commerce). It was night and day from where I am now. Always plugged in and worried about what you were coming back to the next day, overworked and expected to take it because that was, “part of the start up mentality”. Leaving that environment was the best thing I could have done for myself, mentally, emotionally, and financially.

What was your first job?

My first job EVER was working at one of my favorite places in my small town back home working the cash register and filling candy orders, The Original Candy Kitchen in Williamson NY.

My first big boy job was Operations Manager at Urbanstems where I helped build and optimize NYC operations for them. After that I moved into the product side of things where I managed and designed the non-floral side of the business.

What do you like most about working with Brilliant Muse?

The flexibility - I never thought that a job environment like this existed, you see it movies but its always been one of those unattainable situations where you’re think, “do these people actually work?” Brilliant Muse not only allows you to be flexible with your own time but encourages the idea that not everyone works their best by being chained to a desk for 8-10 hours a day. We all got laundry to do - ya know?

What attracted you to Brilliant Muse? Why did you choose Brilliant Muse?

Once I got a taste of remote work I knew that I would never be able to work for a company that forces me to come into an office. Working with one of my childhood best friends was also a huge perk (thanks for the referral, Jessie!)

What city do you live in? What do you like most about it?

I live in New York City, one of the best cities in the world. I love that there is always something to do here, but also how accepting it is here. You can find people from all over the world and all walks of life here. I can be myself.

What do you like to do outside of work? What are some hobbies, activities you are able to do because of remote work / flexible schedule?

My family means the world to me so I try to travel to see them as much as possible (WFH definitely helps with this!) Biking around the city and taking my dog, Luna Grace to new areas to walk around and explore. Sundays you can catch me watching the Buffalo Bills play with my friends - GO BILLS!! And travel - at the end of this summer I am doing a solo trip to Amsterdam, Brussels, Prague, Budapest, and Munich for Oktoberfest!

What is your favorite quote?

“If your dreams don't scare you, they aren't big enough.” - Ellen Johnson Sirleaf. It encourages me to always step out of my comfort zone even when what I want may seem to hard to obtain

What would you tell someone new to consulting?

Unless you have done it before, there is a learning curve and it takes some time to get used to. Be open, listen, take lots and lots of notes, and ask every question that comes to mind, trust me they’re used to it.

How have you grown as a person because of making this shift in your career?

Because I am not constantly wrapped up in my work/career. It allows me to explore new things about myself, really hone in on what's important and more importantly allows me the time and freedom to act on those ideas.
