Research shows the tremendous benefits of infusing diversity, inclusion, well-being, and psychological safety in the workplace and the positive impact it makes for people, clients, and society. All of this leads to improved workforce innovation, better business performance and bottom lines, access to a larger talent pool, higher retention, and stronger brand reputation. These benefits are not only important; it’s simply the right thing to do.
The Bias Within Our Brains
Bias lives in each of our brains; it’s science really. The control panel for bias is made up by the amygdala, hippocampus, and prefrontal cortex. According to the Chopra Foundation Education & Research, these parts of your brain are programmed to activate your alert system while simultaneously informing you, “they’re like me” or “they’re not like me”, which is how you make judgements based on how others compare to yourself. This does not mean our brain is setting us up for failure, as these processes can oftentimes be used in a positive way.
Our brain forms bias at the unconscious level,
so it is up to us to consciously uplift and celebrate these differences.

Muse in Motion - How We Integrate
Our Mosaic committee hosts monthly DEI meetings and the feedback has been amazing so far! The topics we’ve covered include Implicit Bias in the Workplace, Neurodiversity, Mental Health Awareness paired with a meditation practice, Pride Month, and even a yoga class. Resources on the selected topics each month are shared ahead of time to provide more insight. Every meeting is planned differently depending on the topic, sometimes engaging guest experts to present. The environment has been filled with compassion, learning, and vulnerability. Overall, we are so pleased with how our meetings have been so well-received amongst the team and look forward to continuing to grow with our team!
