We Don't Check Boxes: How DEI is Part of Our DNA
Updated: Sep 11
A fundamental commitment that recognizes and celebrates all of us.
At Brilliant Muse, our people make us unique. We lovingly created Mosaic, a fundamental commitment that recognizes and celebrates all of us. Built upon diversity of thought and diversity of experiences, Mosaic is all about making an impact within and beyond the business.
We are dedicated to helping people thrive - both personally and professionally - living lives with passion, enthusiasm, and radical well-being. Mosaic represents our intention to incorporate Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion into everything we do. These important attributes are the highest priorities and driving force of Brilliant Muse - they’re part of our core values; the heart of what we stand for:
Connect | We are one
Inspire | We say no to old paradigms and yes to fresh ideas
Elevate | We’re on the move, always seeking new and improved ways of being
And we walk the talk and put our values into action - no posers allowed! We’ve happily created an inclusive environment built around safety, trust, and belonging. We strongly believe all people are to be accepted and treated with dignity, and continue to provide fair and sustainable opportunities for everyone to succeed and grow. We strive to be an inspirational thought leader, a role model, while continuing to evolve.
Diversity is not only inviting everyone to a meeting, but being curious about different perspectives
Equity means everyone can contribute to the agenda
Inclusion is giving everyone the opportunity to participate in the meeting, whether it be in person or remote
We embrace and celebrate the unique experiences, perspectives, and cultural backgrounds that we all bring. We want everyone to feel respected, valued and empowered. We encourage our team to be at the forefront in helping us promote and sustain this inclusivity.
Research shows the tremendous benefits of infusing diversity, inclusion, well-being, and psychological safety in the workplace and the positive impact it makes for people, clients, and society. All of this leads to improved workforce innovation, better business performance and bottom lines, access to a larger talent pool, higher retention, and stronger brand reputation. These benefits are not only important; it’s simply the right thing to do.
The Bias Within Our Brains
Bias lives in each of our brains; it’s science really. The control panel for bias is made up by the amygdala, hippocampus, and prefrontal cortex. According to the Chopra Foundation Education & Research, these parts of your brain are programmed to activate your alert system while simultaneously informing you, “they’re like me” or “they’re not like me”, which is how you make judgements based on how others compare to yourself. This does not mean our brain is setting us up for failure, as these processes can oftentimes be used in a positive way.
Our brain forms bias at the unconscious level,
so it is up to us to consciously uplift and celebrate these differences.
Our Core Values Working Around the Clock
Brilliant Muse is woman-owned and a certified member of the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC), the nation’s largest third-party certifier of the businesses owned and operated by women in the United States.
We choose to only work with clients who also prioritize and support diversity, demonstrated through their consistent actions and practices, and have completed their certification process to solidify the promise.
We are committed to continue pushing outside our comfort zone and having a voice in the conversation.
Like a Caterpillar Becomes a Butterfly
“The measure of intelligence is the ability to change.” - Albert Einstein
We’re all about transformation and have the opportunity every day to make new choices. So what’s next?
We’re eager to shine light on struggles that may be kept in the shadows
We’re curious about understanding how others experience the world to raise consciousness
We’re intent on creating emotionally intelligent teams that thrive
Muse in Motion - How We Integrate
Our Mosaic committee hosts monthly DEI meetings and the feedback has been amazing so far! The topics we’ve covered include Implicit Bias in the Workplace, Neurodiversity, Mental Health Awareness paired with a meditation practice, Pride Month, and even a yoga class. Resources on the selected topics each month are shared ahead of time to provide more insight. Every meeting is planned differently depending on the topic, sometimes engaging guest experts to present. The environment has been filled with compassion, learning, and vulnerability. Overall, we are so pleased with how our meetings have been so well-received amongst the team and look forward to continuing to grow with our team!
We invite you to join us on this journey where we take each day as an opportunity to learn and grow. Let’s elevate the convo by sharing your story and ideas with us or reach out if you are interested in joining the Brilliant Muse team via email@example.com. And continue to follow us on LinkedIn and Instagram for updates and inspiration!
